STATEMENT FROM CALIFORNIA COMMON CAUSE POLICY ADVOCATE PHILLIP UNG REGARDING REDISTRICTING REFERENDUM COMMITTEE’S NAME CHANGE

Yesterday afternoon, F.A.I.R. – Fairness & Accountability in Redistricting Committee filed documents with the Secretary of State to amend their name to the following: “F.A.I.R. – Fairness & Accountability In Redistricting ballot measure comm. with major funding from CA Republican Party & Friends of Mimi Walters For Senate 2012.” This amendment was filed one day after Common Cause asked the Fair Political Practice Commission to enforce Government Code 84504 and require the Committee amend their name to clearly identify their major donors of $50,000 or more.

Statement from Phillip Ung, Common Cause policy advocate:

“Common Cause is pleased to see the referendum committee’s major donors disclosed in a manner that is transparent to the public. This disclosure allows voters to see the true partisan intentions of this referendum and partisan attempts to overturn voter-initiated redistricting maps.”

California Common Cause is a non-partisan, non-profit that strives to strengthen our democracy by empowering our members, supporters and the general public to take action on critical policy issues.
