We deserve a democracy where each of us is represented and has a voice — and a government that works for every American, not just the wealthy few. It’s time to add much-needed balance to our democracy and enforce tougher rules to ensure politicians can’t be bought by the highest bidder.
Wealthy individuals and corporations don’t give away huge campaign donations for nothing. They’re buying influence and access from public officials who know how campaigns are funded in the current landscape, where big money dominates.
California Common Cause has been active in promoting campaign contribution limits, to limit the influence of a few wealthy donors, and ensure that elected representatives represent all Californians. Recently, we’ve carried legislation that would place default campaign contribution limits on city and county races. Unfortunately, powerful special interests, who are now taking advance of lax contribution restrictions, oppose our efforts—and that’s why we need your help.
