California is one of several states in the country that has adopted automatic voter registration programs like California Motor Voter. These modernized programs help register thousands of eligible voters and keep voter rolls accurate by automatically updating voters’ addresses.

If you’re an eligible Californian completing a driver’s license, ID, or change of address transaction through the DMV, you will be automatically registered or pre-registered to vote, unless you opt out. Eligible Californians getting their learner’s permit will also be pre-registered to vote, unless they opt out.

Remember that you can always register to vote online at registertovote.ca.gov.
