Background on Santa Barbara County Redistricting
The voters of Santa Barbara passed Measure G2018, establishing an independent redistricting commission to redraw county supervisorial district lines after the 2020 census. Independent redistricting is critical to ensuring fair representation for all political parties, communities, and voters.
Santa Barbara is the first county to establish a redistricting commission under a new state law, sponsored by Common Cause, to allow local governments to create independent redistricting commissions.
