Thanks to the hard work of California Common Cause and other good-government groups, Sacramento joined the list of cities with ethics commissions in 2017. Sacramento’s five-member commission has the authority to review ethics complaints against council members and other city officials, and to enforce penalties if they find wrongdoing. California Common Cause is working to establish similar commissions across the state, and to keep holding power accountable.
