California Common Cause announceds its efforts to ensure voters’ rights are protected on Election Day

Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation to give citizens a greater voice in California’s democracy. Senate Bill 1107, by Sen. Ben Allen, D-Santa Monica, gives local governments and the state the choice to enact citizen-funded election programs. California Common Cause sponsored the bill with the California Clean Money Campaign.

Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed bipartisan legislation to bring greater transparency to money in California politics. Senate Bill 1349, by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, will direct the Secretary of State to modernize Cal-Access, California’s online system for campaign finance filing and disclosure. California Common Cause was a sponsor of the bill, along with the California Business Roundtable.

Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation authorizing counties to adopt a voter-centered approach to elections. Senate Bill 450, authored by Sen. Ben Allen and sponsored by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, provides voters with many more options for how they can vote, recognizing the changing needs of voters today. Common Cause supported the bill.

Sacramento – Today, the Legislature showed bipartisan support for Senate Bill 1107 (Allen, Hancock, Chiu, Gonzalez), which would enable the state and local governments to address special interest money in politics with citizen funded election systems by amplifying the voices of small donors and everyday voters.
