A Civil Beat Panel Discussion On Good Government Bills (Video)

Low voter turnout and campaign finance reform were among the issues tackled Thursday at the state Capitol.

Civil Beat was at the Capitol on Thursday for Apathy and Influence, a panel discussion on how good government bills are faring in the legislative session.

Panelists included state Sen. Maile Shimabukuro, Common Cause Executive Director Carmille Lim, and the League of Women Voters’ Janet Mason. The discussion was moderated by Chad Blair of Civil Beat.

Sen. Russell Ruderman, who was sitting in the audience, joined midway to talk about his term limit bill, which was killed earlier this month.

Panelists also discussed low voter turnout, campaign finance reform and the practice of legislators sharing their campaign funds with other politicians.
