Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the US, is now a federal holiday, and we urge you to celebrate and reflect on racial justice.

In the final hours of the NM Legislative Session, several CCNM priority bills were passed, including SB 160 Judicial Public Financing, SB 304 Independent Redistricting, HB 231 Native American Polling Places, and HB 55 Capital Outlay Transparency! That, coupled with many wins earlier in the NMLEG, are detailed in our final Democracy Wire of the session!

We need your help to ensure Ranked Choice Voting, Public Financing for District Court Races, Independent Redistricting and more cross the finish line!

Two good government bills made strides advancing from committees in both chambers this week -- HB 74 ensures that re-entering citizens are able to participate in the political process in accordance with the Constitution, and SB 160 will help justices focus on their dockets, rather than fundraising, while also preventing possible conflicts of interest.

During the 2021 session, Common Cause New Mexico is advocating for expanding public financing of judicial races, adopting ranked choice voting, expanding voter access, redistricting reform, shining a light on campaign contributions and spending, and more transparency around lobbying activities.
