Polls show that citizens are increasingly concerned about “Big Money” in politics, yet many taxpayers do not know that the Hawaii Election Campaign Fund was created to help address this serious issue.

If you have a state tax liability of at least $3, you have the option of marking “Yes” or “No” on your income tax return for $3 (or $6 if married and filing a joint return) to go to the Hawaii Election Campaign Fund.

The Hawaii Election Campaign Fund supports Hawaii’s Citizen Funded Elections program, which makes qualified candidates less dependent on private special interest donors to fund their campaigns

By marking “Yes” for the Hawaii Election Campaign Fund $3 (or $6) will go from the state general fund to the Hawaii Election Campaign Fund.

Marking “Yes” will not increase your tax or reduce your refund.
