Protests Call on Congress to Investigate Trump’s Conflicts of Interests & Demand Trump Put the American People Before His Businesses

On the day that President-elect Donald Trump promised a press conference to discuss how he will “remove” himself from his businesses, activists across the county delivered over 400,000 petition signatures to Trump’s properties protesting his conflicts of interests. Some of the petitions demanded that Trump sell his businesses and put his assets into a truly blind trust, while others called on Congress to investigate Trump’s conflicts of interest.

Since announcing the press conference regarding the future of his businesses over Twitter, Trump has postponed it until January, leaving the public in the dark about his plans to address concerns that he may put his business interests before the American people.

Petitions were delivered to Trump Tower in Chicago, Trump Tower in New York, Trump Hotel in DC, and Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Activists also delivered petitions to Senator Pat Toomey’s office in Philadelphia to call on Sen. Toomey to investigate Trump’s conflicts of interest and to urge Trump to fully rid himself of them.

Groups including Common Cause, Demand Progress, Every Voice, and Public Citizen gathered over 400,000 petitions demanding that Trump fully sell his businesses and put his assets into a truly blind trust.

“The more than 500 businesses that President-elect Trump owns through the Trump Organization present a massive and unprecedented conflict of interest,” said Brian Gladstein, Executive Director of Common Cause Illinois. “The President-elect must immediately sell all of the Trump Organization’s assets and set up a blind, independent trust to manage his wealth while he serves as President.”
