Common Cause Illinois Statement on Gov. Prizker’s signing of new maps into law

CHICAGO – Common Cause Illinois Executive Director Jay Young released the following statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s signing of new maps for the General Assembly, the Illinois Supreme Court and the Cook County Board of Review:

“Governor Pritzker broke his promise to veto maps drawn by politicians today, but that unfortunately is not the first time trust has been broken in this redistricting process. From the very beginning, promises of transparency and community involvement were met with hastily scheduled, ill-attended hearings and scant community input, with maps ultimately drawn with outdated data behind closed doors. It’s embarrassing for our state, and insulting to the people of Illinois.”
