Huge Victory For Election Day Registration

Written by Allegra Chapman, Brian Gladstein on December 4, 2014

Yesterday was a huge victory for voting rights in Illinois!

It's been a two year battle, but we prevailed in the end. After working with our coalition partners and the media, such as this editorial, we have passed Election Day Registration in Illinois! This will allow voters across the state to register and vote on Election Day. It's been fantastic working with our steering committee of groups that include Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Chicago Votes, IL PIRG, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

Also thanks to all our national supporters and our newest allies that helped in the very end such as change Illinois! Finally, I want to send a personal thanks to Marissa Liebling for being such a star voting rights advocate since we started on this journey.

Thank you for your support and hard work contacting your legislators and signing the pledge. We could not have done this without you!

Time to celebrate!
