President Obama calls for full net neutrality

Posted by Jack Mumby on November 10, 2014

Those of us fighting for a free and open Internet got some good news this morning. President Obama just spoke out in strong support of net neutrality, and asked FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler to reclassify broadband internet as a telecommunications service.

Watch it here:

This couldn't have come at a better time. Just a few weeks ago, Chairman Wheeler floated a watered-down approach that would have let Internet providers offer online "fast lanes" to those willing to pay more. If you can't afford that special treatment, then you're out of luck under this "hybrid" proposal.

We have to seize this moment. Our democracy relies on a connected and informed public, and net neutrality is the best way to ensure that.

4 million Americans, and now the President, have spoken out -- what will it take for the FCC to listen? Sign our petition asking Chairman Wheeler to do the right thing.
