TODAY at 10:30am MST: Common Cause Arizona to Join President Biden in Tempe

Program Director Jenny Guzman to urge passage of voting rights legislation

TEMPE, AZ – Common Cause Arizona’s Program Director will join President Joe Biden in Tempe, Arizona, as he gives remarks on the state of our democracy and voting rights in Arizona and beyond. The event will occur Thursday, September 28th at 10:30 AM MST.

Guzman will be available for one-on-one interviews following the event.

Statement of Jenny Guzman, program director for Common Cause Arizona:

“We are grateful for President Joe Biden’s commitment to strengthening Arizonans’—and all Americans’—civil liberties. Under his administration, we have a clear path ahead to protect and strengthen our democracy.

That’s why it is imperative we pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Voting is our sacred right, and as we’ve seen in Arizona, there are new threats constantly emerging and attempting to weaken that right.

The Freedom to Vote Act eliminates barriers to the ballot box and ensures every eligible voter can freely, fairly, and accessibly make their voice heard, helping to make real the promises of our democracy for all. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will protect our freedom to vote from those who want to silence voters’ voices.

We ask President Biden to urge Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as quickly as possible to help strengthen every voter’s voice ahead of the 2024 election.”
