Meet Maya…
Maya (she/her) is the Media & Democracy Program Manager at California Common Cause. Maya joins Common Cause after serving as the Director of Strategic Communications at the Public Advocates Office at the California Public Utilities Commission. Before that role, she worked as the Communications Director for the Council of Community Housing Organizations (CCHO), developing and implementing media and political advocacy initiatives around affordable housing and land use issues. Her work at CCHO included San Francisco’s passage of the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act, a win that will help keep families in their homes for generations. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA).
In her free time, Maya hosts Proud Stutter, a disability justice podcast on shifting the narrative around stuttering. Based in San Francisco, Maya holds a Masters in Public Affairs from The University of San Francisco and a BA in Global Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara
