Meet Alan…

Alan Wiersba received a Computer Science Bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984.  He has been at Oracle Corporation for 26 years; now the fourth-longest serving employee out of 105,000.  Mr. Wiersba is primarily involved with collaboration technology for end users: document sharing, word processing, spreadsheets, email, calendaring.  Over the past 15 years, he has developed techniques to run better in-person and remote collaborative meetings.  He is married to Jan Holden, who will also be present at Common Cause Board meetings.

Mr. Wiersba has been involved with Common Cause for 20 years, focusing on mitigating the effects of special interest money in politics. In 2002, he helped fund radio ads to get the swing votes for McCain-Feingold. In 2003, he helped fund the amicus brief before Supreme Court for McCain-Feingold.  In 2008, Mr. Wiersba helped fund Election Protection work.  In 2010, he helped train Common Cause staff in using Web Conferencing software and in running more effective meetings.
