Abeni is originally from Western Massachusetts, but currently calls sunny Tampa, FL home. Abeni brings to Common Cause her expertise in organizing, policy analysis, voting rights, election administration, and redistricting. Prior to joining Common Cause, Abeni was the Florida Digital Organizer for All On The Line Florida, a campaign of the National Redistricting Action Fund, where she organized Florida’s statewide program to create awareness & action around the redistricting process via strategic partnerships, and grassroots engagement.
Abeni has prior campaign and organizing experience, working on the Biden for President campaign in Florida and on Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Presidential Campaign in New Hampshire. Abeni has 8 years of poll worker experience in Hillsborough County, Florida, managing the polling place on Election Day by supervising the election process in accordance with Florida Election Law. She has spent time on Capitol Hill as a Congressional Legislative Intern for Congresswoman Kathy Castor, conducting political research on pending legislative issues, yielding policy recommendations, and composing memorandum on Congressional briefings used by the Congresswoman in Congressional Hearings. She also has a plethora of non-profit experiences across the Tampa Bay area, where her work was driven by missions that aim to end veteran homelessness, close the economic opportunity divide, advocate for foster care youth, and promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families via the Early Head Start program. She is passionate about creating a society that is fair and inclusive to all.
Abeni holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tampa where she majored in Sociology, and a master’s in public policy degree from New England College. She enjoys reading, writing, bike riding, playing basketball, and spending time with friends and family.
