Meet Aaron…

Aaron Scherb joined Common Cause in May 2013 and is the Senior Director of Legislative Affairs. He helps craft and gain support for various proposals to strengthen our democracy, primarily related to campaign finance reform, voting rights, redistricting reform, and ethics and lobbying reform. Aaron coordinates advocacy activities with members of Congress and their staff by reviewing legislation, helping plan and speak at dozens of congressional briefings and press conferences, and drafting op-eds and social media posts. Additionally, he works with key coalition partners to expand support for democracy reforms beyond the “good government” community and co-leads the Hill advocacy group for a coalition of 240+ organizations. From working as a congressional staffer for three members of Congress, his knowledge and understanding of the legislative process, as well as his relationships with congressional offices, help advance Common Cause’s legislative goals. He created and authors Common Cause’s Democracy Scorecard, which we have published for the last four cycles. He also created and sends a weekly e-newsletter called the “Democracy Download” to more than 1,500 congressional and administration staff, funders, reporters, and coalition allies.

Aaron has been quoted or published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press, Reuters, USA Today, NPR, Roll Call, The Hill, Politico, and hundreds of national, regional, and local publications. Aaron has been recognized as a “top grassroots lobbyist” by The Hill in 2017-2021 and 2023 and was recognized in Washingtonian Magazine’s “most influential” list in 2022 and 2023. Aaron received his B.A. in political science from Haverford College and his M.A. in government from Johns Hopkins University.
