ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Northeastern North Carolina Organizer will be responsible for public outreach in the Northeastern North Carolina and Elizabeth City area as well as outreach to our current members in the area so that they are more connected to Common Cause North Carolina and have the tools they need to stand up for our democracy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build Community Engagement:
- Lead nonpartisan voter education, engagement, and election protection activities through the November 2022 election.
- Recruit and train volunteers to serve as non-partisan volunteer poll monitors, assisting voters and reporting problems at polling places.
- Represent CCNC in civic education and outreach activities in region of Northeastern North Carolina and Elizabeth City, NC.
- Conduct CCNC member events and meetings.
- Build and nurture relationships with community partners in Northeastern North Carolina and Elizabeth City area.
- Fully utilize social media to promote activities.
- Utilize new digital organizing tactics including, but not limited to, Relay and Relational Voter Program.
- Organize Elizabeth City State University students, faculty, and staff around pro-democracy events. Build and nurture relationships with ECSU faculty and administration. Recruit and supervise Common Cause student interns and Democracy Fellows.
Build support for Common Cause’s work and campaigns:
- Coordinate rapid response in-person events that may include petition deliveries, rallies, stand-up news conferences, and other creative actions that earn media attention.
- Assist in developing materials (factsheets, blogs, emails, graphics, etc.) to inform and educate our members and the public.
- Coordinate grassroots actions with coalition partners to advance campaigns including redistricting transparency, anti-disinformation, voting rights, ethics, and money and politics.
Build and diversify our membership:
- Recruit and develop diverse leadership of grassroots members, especially youth, rural, and people living in low-income communities.
- Stay abreast of legislative and organizational developments across constituencies. In other words, know what’s going on across the issues we care about and know which ones are most important to communities of color, low-income communities, and young people.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience, education, and technical proficiency:
- At least 2 years of experience in organizing, advocacy, project management, fundraising or similar fields.
- Working knowledge of statewide democracy issues, including voting rights, redistricting, money in politics, ethics, and more.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, and current social media platforms.
- Familiarity with VAN, Vote Builder, and various texting platforms.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to equity justice.
Ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with many kinds of people and a working knowledge of the dynamics of power, privilege, and bias.
- Experience coordinating other advocacy programs, GOTV, and/or experience working in organizing, issue advocacy, and/or political campaigns.
- The ability to craft compelling messages and explain complex ideas in accessible ways.
- Commitment to political reform and social and economic justice.
- Strong empathy, and ability and desire to work in diverse settings.
- Commitment to working as part of a team.
- Commitment to professionalism including standards for self and others.
- Demonstrated ability to strategize and plan backward.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, including experience in working effectively with those belonging to groups of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age, and socioeconomic status.
- Ability to speak more than one language, Spanish preferred.
- Understanding of the political landscape and policy trends in North Carolina.
- Action Network (or similar website and advocacy management program) mastery.

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 – $57,000; plus, a generous benefits package
