Role: North Carolina Campaigns Intern
Location: Hybrid
Start Date: June 1-July 31
Reports to: Gino Nuzzolillo
Details: This role is part-time (10 hours/week), and temporary (8 weeks)
Essential functions: We are seeking student interns to work with our North Carolina team relating to voting and elections, redistricting, and democracy reform. Interns will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, research, policy development, communications, and member outreach and events. Individuals with a keen interest in government affairs and the legislative process, can-do attitude, and a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy are highly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with drafting and revise scripts used for canvassing, phone banking, and other direct voter contact delivered through the organizing program. Collaborate with communications staff to ensure alignment between direct contact and mass communications.
- Assist with tailoring and modifying messaging and contact lists depending on the purpose of the outreach and the medium used to reach voters.
- Assist advocates in implementation of voter contact outreach activities. Collaborate with the organizing leads to arrange for and oversee activities, actions and events.
- Represent the organization at public events and partner meetings
- Participate where needed in key programs, such as county board of elections monitoring, election protection, and HBCU outreach.
- Assist in developing and implementing organizing and advocacy tactics and both direct and grassroots lobbying strategies, in collaboration with Organizing and Advocacy teams.
Qualifications:
Required: Outgoing and can-do personality, interest in democracy issues, ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred: Strong writing skills
Salary: $1,360 for the 8 weeks paid in 4 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.
Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
