Common Cause/NY Response to Senator Klein’s Campaign Finance Reform Proposal

In response to news reports today that Senator Klein will propose a campaign finance package, Common Cause/NY Executive Director Susan Lerner, released the following statement:

“As the slew of recent indictments make clear, the culture of corruption in Albany is absolutely out of control. Common Cause/NY applauds Senator Klein for joining the chorus of support for comprehensive campaign finance reforms built around a core of small donor public financing of elections to restore the public trust in government.

Momentum is building throughout New York State and it’s the responsibility of all honorable legislators to step up and answer the people’s call. The voters are counting on Governor Cuomo to finish what he started and work with the Legislature to pass comprehensive campaign finance reform now. We look forward to seeing bill language and working with Governor Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Silver, Senator Klein, and Democratic Leader Stewart-Cousins to craft the strongest solution for all New Yorkers.”
