Role: New Mexico Policy & Advocacy Intern 

Location: New Mexico Hybrid (mostly virtual with community work) 

Start Date: June 1st 

Reports to: Executive Director 

Details: This is a part-time internship (30 hours per pay period), starting June 1st  

 Essential functions:  Common Cause NM is seeking a Legislative and Advocacy Intern for the summer of 2024. This is an exciting opportunity at the intersection of advocacy, communications, and community engagement. This intern will help create social media content, assist with grassroots activities, and work in collaborative spaces with various coalition partners. This is a chance to learn and grow at a non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy.
 

Skills you will build and work you will be involved in 

  •  Assist with grassroots activities during the summer outreach season 
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and manage for CCNM’s election protection program 
  • Assist in policy advocacy during the New Mexico legislature’s interim session 
  • Generate content for social media 

Qualifications
You will be a good fit for this internship if you have: 

  • A passion for learning about elections, government affairs, and the legislative process 
  • A desire and an ability to do community engagement work in a non-partisan manner  
  • A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • A willingness to build your writing and listening skills 
  • A willingness to learn new skills
  • Familiar with: 
  • Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Presentations) 
  • Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) 
  • Proficient with Zoom/Teams virtual meetings and webinars 

 Compensation: $2,625 for the 11 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.   

Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
