Role: National Web Content Intern  

Location: Virtual or Hybrid 

Start Date: February 1st-April 15th, 2024 

Reports to: Website Strategist 

Details: This is a part-time internship (15 hours/week), starting Thursday, February 1st and ending Monday, April 15th  

Essential functions: Common Cause is seeking interns to work with our state chapters relating to voting and elections, redistricting, and democracy reform. Interns will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, research, policy development, communications, and/or member outreach and events. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy, and who is interested in learning more about government affairs and the legislative process.   

Skills you will build and work you will be involved in 

  • Create high-quality, engaging written content for the new website, ensuring it aligns with the organization’s goals and target audience. 
  • Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and SEO optimization, adhering to the website’s style guidelines. 
  • Assist in the migration of existing content from the old website to the new platform, maintaining proper formatting and metadata. 
  • Conduct content audits to identify outdated or redundant materials and recommend improvements or removals. 
  • Assist Website Strategist by updating internal links and redirects. 
  • Implement basic on-page SEO techniques, including keyword research and optimization, meta tag creation, and image optimization. 
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting website traffic and user engagement using analytics tools. 


You will be a good fit for this internship if you have: 

  • A passion for learning about elections, government affairs, and the legislative process 
  • A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner  
  • A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • A willingness to build your writing and listening skills 
  • A willingness to learn new skills 
  • Curiosity regarding Word Press
  • Basic familiarity with SEO or Search Engine Optimization
  • A keen interest in data analytics and Google Analytics

Compensation: $2,677.50 for the 10.5 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.   

Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
