Role: National Communications Intern 

Location: Virtual 

Start Date: July 1-September 15, 2024 

Reports to:  Communications Director 

Details: This role is part-time (40 hours/pay period) starting on July 1 and ending on September 15. 

Essential functions:  As part of the Communications Department, this position is responsible for supporting and working with a talented team of communications strategists working nationally and at the state level to advance democracy reform. As the foundation of the work, the Communications team is responsible for educating and inspiring others to take actions that move our democracy forward. This position must share our commitment to providing effective strategies across media channels that help national and state staff at Common Cause deliver powerful pro-democracy wins.  

 Responsibilities: 

Assist staff with all a range of advocacy and communications activities, including: 

  • Drafting communications materials, including blog posts, social media posts, videos, and other social and digital tools; 
  • Creating template communication tools for state and national staff; 
  • Creating website and social media content, including blog posts, graphics, one-pagers, videos, or other content; 
  • Helping manage social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Tik Tok, and YouTube; 
  • Maintaining the communications team press lists and other media databases; 
  • Developing educational materials and social media materials, working with local organizations to provide elections support, and/or mobilizing our members in advance of the 2024 election 

Qualifications 

  • Passionate about good government issues 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently 
  • Excellent writing, researching, and editing skills are required 
  • must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel. Experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Canva or other graphics platform encouraged 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of community partners. Good listening and communication skills. 

First-generation college students, low-income students, and/or students of color are encouraged to apply. 

Salary: $3,500 for the 11 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month. 

Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
