Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled in Daunt v. Benson to uphold Michigan’s independent redistricting commission.

In reaction, Dan Vicuna, Common Cause’s National Redistricting Manager, released the following statement:

“Today’s court decision is a victory for Michiganders who want voters to pick politicians, not the other way around. Nonpartisan redistricting commissions like the one Michigan voters passed in 2018 have proven to increase fairness and transparency and stop outrageous partisan gerrymandering. Common Cause filed an amicus brief supporting the commission and will continue to support Voters Not Politicians should this partisan attack on common-sense redistricting reform move to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
