Common Cause Michigan, Democracy Advocates to Hold Lobby Day Focused on Campaign Finance Reform

LANSING, MI — On Thursday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Common Cause Michigan, as well as other democracy organizations, will convene at the state Capitol to lobby in favor of campaign finance reform.

The event, “Show MI The Money: Campaign Finance Reform Lobby Day,” will be an all-day event, with organizations and volunteers alike calling for common sense bills to get secret money out of politics, end money laundering in our elections, and put reasonable limits on campaign spending.

Throughout the day, volunteers will meet with members of the Michigan Legislature to discuss meaningful campaign finance reform-related policy getting passed this term. There will also be a midday press conference featuring leaders from Common Cause Michigan and partners to discuss this issue and its impact on democracy.

“It is crucial that our elected leaders prioritize the people’s interests, not special interests,” said Quentin Turner, executive director of Common Cause Michigan. “And we must do everything in our power to make sure our leaders aren’t auctioned off to the highest bidders. Common Cause MI encourages all Michiganders to join us and advocate for a government that works for everyone.”

Those interested in volunteering can register here. Training webinars will be held on Friday, April 21 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesday, April 25 from 6 to 7 p.m.
