Common Cause Michigan Renews Call for Special Prosecutor After Matthew DePerno Found Involved in Voting-System Breach

LANSING, MI — Yesterday, GOP Michigan Attorney General candidate Matthew DePerno was found to have allegedly been involved in the breach of a voting system in Western Michigan. DePerno led a team that gained unauthorized access to voting equipment, then is reported to have used that access in an attempt to substantiate the false claims that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election.

Deadline to Register by Mail and Online, Recommended Mail-in Date for Absentee Ballots in Michigan Approaches

LANSING, MI — Common Cause Michigan reminds Michiganders that the last day to register to vote online/by mail before the August 2 primary is Monday, July 18. Additionally, Tuesday, July 19 is the recommended date for voters to mail in their absentee ballot so it can arrive on time.

This afternoon, the FBI arrested Michigan gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley in Allendale. Kelley has been charged with a misdemeanor in relation to the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol. Kelley is alleged to have entered and engaged in disorderly conduct, as well as physical violence during the insurrection.

Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer vetoed amended versions of SB 303 and SB 304, legislation that would have made it more difficult for voters to cast a ballot on Election Day and to have their vote be counted. The bills were passed on a strictly partisan basis.
