Michiganders Approach Upcoming Deadlines for Voter Registration

LANSING, MI — New voters have until next Monday, Oct. 24, to submit their voter registration forms online or by mail in time for the Nov. 8 midterm election. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 24 in order to be accepted.

“If voters miss the Oct. 24 deadline, they can still register through Same Day registration on Election Day. Additionally, Michiganders should double-check their voter registration in order to update or correct any appropriate information,” said Quentin Turner, Common Cause Michigan’s program director.

“The right to vote is the foundation of our government, and registering to vote is a key element of that foundation,” Turner said. “Please encourage your friends, family, and community to spend the time ensuring their right to vote is intact and ready for Nov. 8 by taking advantage of the plethora of choices Michiganders have to register.”

Michiganders can register to vote online and make any needed changes to existing voter registrations at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/registervoter.

Other important election-related dates for voters:

  • Now – Oct. 25: Common Cause Michigan-recommend time frame to submit absentee ballots by mail. Afterwards, we encourage folks to submit their ballot in-person either to their city or township clerk’s office or to a secure drop box provided by their clerk, which can be done by Nov. 7.
  • Nov. 8, Election Day: Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
