Role: Massachusetts Advocacy Intern
Location: This position is hybrid – the intern will work partially remotely and partially out of the Common Cause Massachusetts office in Boston.

Details: This is a part-time internship (40 hours/pay period), starting June 17 and ending on August 30
Essential functions: Common Cause (MA) is seeking an Advocacy Intern. This is an exciting opportunity at the intersection of advocacy and communications. This intern will create engaging social media content, pioneer and organize community events, and work in collaborative spaces with various coalition partners. This is a chance to learn and grow at a non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy.
Skills you will build and work you will be involved in:
- Assist staff with all a range of advocacy and communications activities, including:
- Assisting with grassroots efforts such as phone outreach to current and potential supporters and general petition gathering to raise awareness of reforms;
- Mobilizing communities to hold politicians and corporations accountable;
- Assisting with policy development, social media, and other written outreach particularly around money in politics, redistricting, and voting reforms;
- Organizing and promoting events including policy forums and rallies;
- Creating website and social media content, including blog posts, graphics, one-pagers, videos, or other content types;
- Helping manage social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
- Meeting with elected officials, coalition partners, and community groups to discuss good government reforms and our long-term agenda;
- Supporting redistricting efforts to promote independent redistricting in cities and/or counties across the state. This includes supporting coalitions and coordinating with local partners;
- Researching state-level democracy-related issues, including campaign finance, redistricting, public participation, and other ongoing projects;
Qualifications
- A passion for learning about elections, government affairs, and the legislative process
- Ability and willingness to work in collaborative settings
- A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner
- A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail
- A willingness to build your writing and listening skills
- A willingness to learn new skills
- Familiarity or willingness to learn Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Excel
- Familiarity with various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
Salary: $3,500 for the 11 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.
Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
