Role: Maryland Research & Policy Intern
Location: Maryland (Hybrid)

Reports to: Policy & Engagement Manager
Details: This is a part-time internship (30 hours/pay period), starting Monday, June 17th and ending Friday, August 30th.
Essential functions: Common Cause Maryland is seeking an intern to engage in research relating to voting and elections, redistricting, and democracy reform. The intern will also assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, policy development, communications, and/or member outreach and events. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy, and who is interested in learning more about government affairs and the legislative process.
Skills you will build and work you will be involved in
- Assisting the Policy & Engagement Manager in researching and organizing data related to democracy issues in Maryland, including campaign finance, voting rights, and other topics
- Creating materials related to democracy issues for the public and policymakers
- Aiding in outreach to Maryland Common Cause members
- Building effective research and strong external communication skills
- Learning about democracy reform, past, present, and future.
Qualifications
You will be a good fit for this internship if you have:
- A passion for learning about elections, government affairs, and the legislative process
- A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner
- A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail
- A willingness to build your writing and listening skills
- A willingness to learn new skills
Compensation: $2,625 for the 11 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.
Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
