Role: Hawaii Development Intern

Reports to: Hawaii Program Manager
Details: This is a part-time internship (30hours/pay period), starting July 1st and ending September 15
Essential functions: Common Cause (HI) is seeking a Development Intern. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of policy and fundraising while growing your skillset and knowledge of the donor and policy landscape of Hawaii This is a chance to learn and grow at a non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy.
Responsibilities
- Donor & Foundation prospect research
- Participate in department-wide strategy and planning meetings
- Sort & forward emails in the Giving Inbox
- Help with direct mail appeal and acquisition process, start to finish
- Write and edit fundraising language as needed
- Schedule (and potentially participate in) donor meetings with the major giving team
- Help with donor focused events
Technical and other job skills to be developed during the internship
- Working with donor database and utilizing and updating donor information
- Working with donor analysis programs like DonorTrends
Learning Objectives
- See the inner workings of a development department at a nonprofit
- Learn to write fundraising copy and learn how an appeal is formed, organized, and executed
- Learn how to communicate with donors and how to craft a fundraising pitch
- Learn what make someone a prospective donor and how we move forward with these organizations and individuals
- Learn about various relationships with database orgs, processing partners, and vendors
Compensation: $2,625 for the 11 weeks paid in 5 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.
Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
