Trump's Bizarre Wiretap Claims Getting More Bizarre

There's No Evidence, But Conway Hints At Use of 'Microwaves That Can Turn Into Cameras"

President Trump’s so-far-unsupported claim that former President Barack Obama had wiretaps installed on his phones in Trump Tower, is getting even more bizarre.

In a weekend interview with her New Jersey hometown newspaper, the Bergen Record, Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway suggested that Trump might have been victim of a variety of types of electronic surveillance.

“There was an article last week that talked about how you can surveil people through their phones, through their — certainly through their television sets, any number of different ways,” Conway said. “And microwaves that turn into cameras, et cetera. We know that is just a fact of modern life.”

Conway apparently was referring to CIA documents that were leaked earlier this month and reveal that the spy agency has developed software that can turn internet-connected “smart” TV sets into listening devices.

Conway made the rounds of network and cable TV morning news shows today to acknowledge that she has no evidence that such devices have been used to eavesdrop on Trump or Trump Tower. She also can’t back up the president’s wiretapping claims, Conway said.

“I’m not Inspector Gadget,” she said on CNN. “I don’t believe people are using the microwave to spy on the campaign.”

So if she doesn’t believe it, why did she raise the possibility that it happened?
