Uber and Lyft are leaving the American Legislative Exchange Council

In the last month, tech giants Google and Microsoft have cut ties with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a secretive corporate lobbying group that pushes cookie-cutter “model bills” through state legislatures.

Google Chairman Eric Schimdt distanced his company from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) on Monday, calling Google’s funding of one ALEC campaign “a mistake” and declaring that “we're trying to not do that in the future.”

Four more corporations, including tech powerhouse Raytheon, have left the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

Microsoft, one of the nation's largest companies, has dropped its membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council.
