Common Cause is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to upholding the core values of our democracy. The national redistricting team seeks to ensure that the process of drawing voting districts is transparent, nonpartisan, and focused on fair representation for our communities. The National Redistricting Law Clerk will assist the team’s efforts to participate in litigation challenging gerrymanders and defending reforms, pass reforms at the state and local levels, and engage in public education about the importance of people-centered redistricting.
LOCATION: Remote or Hybrid
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The National Redistricting Law Clerk will work with Common Cause’s Redistricting and Representation team. Individuals with a keen interest in government affairs, politics, democracy reform, and the legislative process, a can-do attitude, and a commitment to a fair and representative democracy are highly encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist staff with all a range of advocacy and communications activities, including:
- Litigation challenging gerrymanders and defending reforms
- A research project with coalition partners assessing this cycle’s redistricting process,
- Public education about reforms at the state and local level.
- Law clerk will work 10-20 hours per week.
COMPENSATION: Interns will be paid between $20-25 per hour, depending on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be passionate about good government issues. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Excellent writing, researching, and editing skills are required; must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel. Experience with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are helpful. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of community partners. Good listening and communication skills.
