Common Cause is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to upholding the core values of our democracy. We work on voting rights, redistricting reform, government transparency, and money in politics to end structural inequities in our state and local democracies and to create governments at all levels that are accountable to and reflective of the communities we serve.

LOCATION: The location is based in the Atlanta- Metro Area. Working in a Common Cause office requires proof of vaccination and each individual will be provided with a private workspace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: We are seeking student interns to work with our state chapters relating to voting and elections, redistricting, and democracy reform. Interns will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, research, policy development, communications, and member outreach and events. Individuals with a keen interest in government affairs and the legislative process, can-do attitude, and a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy are highly encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist staff with a range of advocacy and communications activities, including:

 

  • Assisting with policy development, social media, and other written outreach particularly around redistricting, money in politics and voting reforms;
  • Researching campaign donations and transparency reforms, with the goal of releasing several reports in the spring;
  • Organizing and promoting events including policy forums and rallies;
  • Create website and social media content, including blog posts, graphics, one-pagers, videos, or other content types;
  • Meeting with elected officials, coalition partners, and community groups to discuss good government reforms and our long-term agenda;
  • Educate and engage voters so they are informed about the 2022 elections and any changes to the voting process. This includes developing educational materials and social media materials, working with local organizations to provide elections support, and/or mobilizing our members.
  • Support local redistricting efforts to catalog redistricting plans  in select cities and/or counties across the state. This includes supporting coalitions and coordinating with local partners; 
  • Support election protection efforts to recruit and train volunteers across the state. This includes supporting local election protection partners.

Fall 2022 interns will work 10 hours per week for 20 weeks September 1-January 31.

The priority application deadline is August 15.

Hours and start dates are determined by the state and listed above.

COMPENSATION: Intern will be paid on the 15th and last day of the month starting with September 15. There will be a total of 10 equal payments. Intern will receive a total of $3,200 for the 20 weeks..

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be passionate about good government issues. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Excellent writing, researching, and editing skills are required; must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel. Experience with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are helpful. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of community partners. Good listening and communication skills. Proficiency in another language is a plus.
