“From attempts to prohibit polling places on campus to these mass arrests of peaceful protestors, it is clear the politicians in power in Texas are doing all they can to stifle the voices of those they disagree with," said Anthony Gutierrez, executive director of Common Cause Texas.

Since November 2023, Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, neither of whom are on the ballot in 2024, received nearly $10 million combined in individual-donor contributions to their political campaigns. 

“If the goal of redistricting is to ensure all voters have access to free and fair elections, it’s no surprise Texas failed the assignment,” said Anthony Gutierrez, Common Cause Texas Executive Director.

As the Texas Senate begins deliberations in the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Common Cause Texas is calling on senators to act in the best interest of the state and remove Paxton from office.

Common Cause Texas has long called for adherence and expansion of state’s ethics rules.
