Town hall at JCSU in Charlotte looks at ways to boost participation among young voters

The 2022 election saw a dip in turnout among young voters in North Carolina, compared to the last midterm election in 2018. To help reverse that ahead of the next round of elections, Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) and voting rights groups hosted a special town hall event in Charlotte to hear directly from students about effective ways to boost participation at the ballot box.

The nonpartisan town hall featured JCSU students and other young people sharing their views on how best to engage their generation in the democratic process and increase voter participation in 2023 and beyond. The event was hosted by Johnson C. Smith University, along with voting rights groups that include Black Voters Matter, Charlotte Racial Justice Consortium, Common Cause NC, Democracy NC, NCAPRI, NC Black Alliance, and You Can Vote.
