Here are the new laws going into effect in Connecticut on January 1st

An overview of the legislation that will go into effect in 2024.

Below is executive director Cheri Quickmire’s comment on the new 14-day early voting period before general elections and a 7-day voting period for most primaries. 

“This was a long time coming. We’re one of the last states in the country to approve this measure, and we’ve seen in other states how well it worked and how people engage. This is a very important improvement in our election laws in Connecticut,” Cheri Quickmire, Executive Director of Common Cause CT.

Quickmire says this will help more people exercise their right to vote.

“I’m very excited that people will have this much time in advance of election day to cast their ballots and to have their voices heard,” Quickmire said. “This gives them opportunity. And to be clear, it’s black and brown people who’ve faced the most barriers to voting in this state and around the country.
