Today, Common Cause announced that Amanda Gonzalez has been named Executive Director of Colorado Common Cause. She will officially join the Common Cause team on February 1.

“We are excited to welcome Amanda to the Common Cause family at a time of unprecedented challenges in Washington,” said Common Cause president Karen Hobert Flynn. “Local reform can be beacon of hope in our broken democracy, and Amanda brings an extensive background and a deep commitment to working for a democracy that truly reflects and represents all of us.”

“Amanda will continue Colorado Common Cause’s long track record of fighting for and enacting reforms that give a greater voice to the people of Colorado,” said Elena Nunez, who is joining the national Common Cause team.  “Colorado Common Cause’s current and future campaigns will be bolstered by Amanda’s leadership and vision.”

“I am beyond excited to join Colorado Common Cause at a time when our state is experiencing a renewed energy for civic engagement,” commented Gonzalez.  “Right now, we face great challenges to democracy as well as great opportunities for real change. I am ready to build upon past successes, broaden our coalition, and make sure that our government truly works for everyone in Colorado.”

Gonzalez succeeds Elena Nunez as executive director of Colorado Common Cause. Nunez is joining Common Cause’s national staff as the director of state operations and ballot measure strategies.

Amanda currently serves on the board of directors for the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, Focus Points Family Resource Center, and other community organizations, and is an affiliate faculty member teaching Chicanos and the Law at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Amanda has an undergraduate degree from Occidental College and a J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
