“If the goal of redistricting is to ensure all voters have access to free and fair elections, it’s no surprise Texas failed the assignment,” said Anthony Gutierrez, Common Cause Texas Executive Director.

Texas voters can make their voices heard in the November 8 midterm election beginning today, October 24 through Friday, November 4.

“Elections should be run by nonpartisan professionals. Regardless of what happened in this election, the single most important thing at this point is for the Election Commission to move quickly to identify potential replacements and get someone qualified in place as soon as humanly possible."

“Texas was already the hardest state to vote in before Republicans passed these laws that made it even harder. What we’re seeing today is a small preview of what we can expect to see at a far wider scale in November unless the federal government finally takes real action to intervene."

“Blaming our dedicated election officials for doing their job and implementing his disastrous anti-voter bill is a new low for this Governor. The mess that we’re seeing today is what happens when you appoint someone to run our elections who is hellbent on overturning the will of the people in the 2020 election."
