Breaking news – PA Supreme Court Kicks Voter ID Back to Lower Court

In a surprise decision today, the PA Supreme Court passed on making a final decision on PA’s controversial voter photo ID law. The court sent the case back to the Commonwealth Court, instructing the court to act in a speedy manner to either declare that the Commonwealth is complying with the voter ID law in way that does not violate citizens state constitutional rights to vote, or enjoin the law from taking effect. Regardless of what the lower court does, the case will end up before the State Supreme Court again – and all this with just six weeks to go until election day. Common Cause/PA is working with scores of voting rights groups to protect voters’ rights in this critical suit. More to come.
