Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and other senators sold large amounts of stock after confidential briefings on COVID-19, Common Cause, a nonprofit government watchdog group, has filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Senate Ethics Committee.

“There was no justifiable reason for the 2016 special legislative session that was hatched in secrecy,” said Bob Phillips of Common Cause North Carolina. “It was a deliberate effort by Republican legislative leaders to keep citizens in the dark about their plans to engage in a nakedly partisan power grab. It was wrong, and it must not happen again.”

2020 Vision: A Look at Voting Rights in North Carolina

Over 200 lawyers and law students attended a symposium at Campbell Law School on Friday, February 7 entitled, “2020 Vision: A Look At Voting Rights in North Carolina.” The keynote speakers were Michael Spencer and Vashti Hinton-Smith of Common Cause of NC who spoke about voting rights for American Americans in North Carolina.
