The Supreme Court is considering two cases that will have reaching implications for voting rights.

The students will be hosting a bus to the polls and a block party to kick-off early voting.

Spearheading the group’s efforts in Charlotte is Rotrina Campbell, the civic engagement organizer for Common Cause North Carolina. Or, as she describes it, “the boots on the ground” for the organization. She said it’s vital that voters are aware of those behind the ballot.

To celebrate the first day of early voting Thursday, the University hosted a block party at the TNT Hair Solutions on Beatties Ford Road in West Charlotte. The block party was hosted by Common Cause North Carolina, the New North Carolina Project, the North Carolina Black Alliance, Black Voters Matter and Johnson C. Smith University.

"I think it's important for people of color to get out and vote because for a very long time our voices weren't being heard," Thaddeus Stewart said. Stewart is part of Common Cause North Carolina, a non partisan group that works to empower North Carolina students at HBCU's to vote.

A non-partisan town hall will be held as part of the #MapOurFuture tour that was galvanized by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to take up Moore v. Harper.
