HBCU students travel from NC to DC to stand up for voting rights

Six of Common Cause North Carolina’s Democracy Fellows traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to join the Journey for Justice as it reached the nation’s capital.

The students from Bennett College, NC A&T State University, NC Central University and Winston-Salem State University marched in the final leg of the 1,000-mile trek that began in Selma, Alabama, this summer. They also met with members of Congress and their staff, urging lawmakers to restore key components of the federal Voting Rights Act.
