Common Cause Poll Shows Solid Majority of Voters Support Independent Redistricting

HB 211 in House Judiciary Tomorrow Feb. 12

In a 2020 poll taken by Research and Polling for Common Cause New Mexico, 57 % of registered voters indicated that they supported an independent redistricting commission to take the process out of the hands of incumbents and partisans and allow more public input.

Last fall, the good government group was part of a bipartisan task force which helped draft HB 211, which will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee Friday Feb. 12.

“The general public is extremely disheartened with the way the redistricting process has taken place over the last several decades in New Mexico,” said Mario Jimenez, campaigns director at Common Cause New Mexico.
