Graduating seniors are stepping into adulthood—and they deserve the opportunity to step into our democracy, too.

SB1786, the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. Young Voter Empowerment Law, would ensure that every Illinois high school offers nonpartisan voter registration to eligible seniors before they graduate, starting in the 2025–2026 school year.

Right now, young people—especially Black youth and youth from underrepresented communities—face serious barriers to registering and voting. SB1786 meets students where they are: in their schools, preparing for the next chapter of their lives.

We prepare students for college, jobs, and financial literacy. It’s time to prepare them to vote, too.

Send a message to your state lawmakers today and urge them to support—and co-sponsor—SB1786 >>
