Pennsylvania state Senate bill would ban mail ballot drop-off locations and drop boxes

Common Cause Pennsylvania opposes the proposed ban. Its executive director says satellite drop-off locations and drop boxes are safe and secure and have security measures not available at most post offices.

“Removing those, wiping them away, will take away an essential avenue that Pennsylvania voters need to make sure that their votes count. They’ve been used in dozens of counties across the state without incident,” said Philip Hensley-Robin, Common Cause Pennsylvania executive director.

Hensley-Robin said, “Ballot drop boxes are secure. They’re surveilled. In many cases, there’s a police presence or there is a presence of an election worker. And it’s not possible for them to be used in that way, and they haven’t been used that way.”
