Legislative Priorities for 2026

From expanding access to the ballot to advocating for transparency and accountability, we work for a government that serves the people in the place where American democracy was created.

Common Cause Pennsylvania has long served as an advocate for Pennsylvanians, who deserve a more responsive, representative government. This legislative session, we will continue our work to protect elections, defend voting rights, and hold officials accountable to the people.

Our legislative priorities for 2026 include:

  • Protecting and expanding access to the ballot. Pennsylvanians have the right to cast a ballot in-person or by mail, and we are working to make sure those rights are not rolled back or infringed upon. We support measures like early voting, same day voter registration, mail-in ballot drop boxes, and satellite elections offices to increase opportunities for voters to cast their ballots and make sure those ballots count.
  • Improving election administration in Pennsylvania. We work with the counties and the Department of State to identify areas to improve how elections are run, such as ballot design, automatic voter registration, polling place management and notice and cure. We advocate for better laws to help counties run safe and efficient elections like pre-canvassing and notice and cure standards.
  • Making our government more reflective and representative of the people. We will continue to fight for an independent citizens’ redistricting commission to draw our Congressional and legislative districts so that voters choose their representatives, instead of politicians choosing their voters.
  • Combating dark money and foreign influence on our political system. We work to limit the influence of money in politics and give power back to the people. We advocate for limiting foreign spending on political campaigns, disclosing dark money campaign contributions, banning gifts to elected officials, and limiting the size of political donations.
  • Making sure everyone’s vote truly counts in presidential elections. We support efforts to change the winner-take-all Electoral College system by activating the National Popular Vote compact here in Pennsylvania.
  • Regulating the use of generative artificial intelligence in political campaigns. Generative AI is a tool that can easily be misused to sow distrust and spread misinformation in elections. We advocate for robust and inclusive disclosures on AI-generated political content to protect voters from false election information while respecting First Amendment rights.

Pennsylvania’s Budget Woes

If the months-long Pennsylvania budget delay wasn’t bad enough, now Pennsylvania residents are reeling from the federal government’s failure to meet its own responsibilities to pass a budget.
