Mia Lewis Speaks Out on Ohio’s Systemic Corruption
Blog Post
Mia Lewis, Associate Director of Common Cause Ohio, testified at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to make sure the commissioners know Ohioans are still tracking the fallout of the Larry Householder House Bill 6 scandal:
“Do you remember the (still unfolding) House Bill 6 scandal? Because of HB6, Ohio electricity consumers spent more than $500 million to prop up aging coal plants, including one in Indiana.
American Electric Power (AEP) managed to fly under the radar in the HB6 corruption scandal, but in January this year the SEC announced that AEP agreed to pay a $19 million fine because of their $1.2 million dark money payments in the corruption scheme and because of lies to investors. Nevertheless, in August, AEP reported record profits. So, they had plenty of money to pay a huge fine and still reward investors. Now they want to raise rates. Why? That $19 million should not be on us! And they’re clearly doing just fine.”
