We must dismantle racism and end white supremacy to build a democracy for all

RALEIGH – The following is a statement from Bob Phillips, executive director of Common Cause North Carolina:

“We mourn with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and the countless victims of violent racism in our nation. We join the voices of millions who are calling for justice. As individuals and as a society, we cannot turn away and simply move on. We must be absolutely committed to dismantling racism and ending white supremacy in all of its malignant forms. This work includes ensuring every person is able to fully and freely participate in our democracy – whether at a protest or the polling place – without fear of suppression, intimidation or brutality. We must stand together to hold our elected officials accountable at all levels of government and demand that they enact tangible solutions based on equity, inclusion and justice.”

Common Cause NC is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy.
